Dear readers,

A majority of anonymous comments to LJ accounts tend to be abusive or snide. They are usually written by people who either have an account on LJ and are too cowardly to take credit, or are people who used to have an account but have since been suspended for TOS violations.

What do you say to laying on major pressure onto LJ admin to completely disable the anonymous posting function from the whole LJ milieu? All it would take would be to inundate "abuse@livejournal.com" on a prearranged day, with messages from as many as you as possible (and you would request this of your readers as well), asking LJ admin to take away all anonymous posting abilities from the LJ domain.

If we do a communication tree, posting in our journals and communities a "Down With Anonymous" day message to let admin know what we want, we could make LJ a safer, friendlier place to communicate.

I have some friends who do not have LJ accounts but they still enjoy posting to LJ. Because of their lack of account, they can only post anonymously.

However, I did get an anon post today that annoyed the shit out of me... so I understand what you're saying.

on the subject...

i also think there should be a default list on everyone's friend's list, allowing you to make a post visible to only livejournal members, so people who don't have an account can't see it. i was thinking about that the other day....

No, it's not fair to people who don't have accounts and aren't able to set them up.

Fair? LJ is a business, not a totally public space. People with no accounts don't matter, and can sometimes be a nuisance. If someone has enough tme to read LJ, they should have enough incentive to get an acount and help support LJ financially. It's not a right, it's a privilege.

It's not fair to ME, a paying member. I enjoy the comments I get from non-LJ people. I have several regular readers (that I know of) who don't have LJ accounts.

Someone who just reads LJ can't necessarily get an account; don't you need to know someone with a LJ so you can get an add code? Or did they recently stop doing that ...? Regardless, I don't want people setting up accounts they aren't going to use, just so they can make comments.

If someone is being harassed by anonymous posters, all s/he has to do is disable the feature that allows people to post anonynmously. Simple as that. There is no good reason to exclude non-LJ people just because of a few bad apples.

I wouldn't want to have a LJ anymore if it excluded most of the Internet population from commenting. It would feel like some weird elite club. I'd probably move elsewhere.
